Jet Boat Smallmouth Bass Fishing on Pennsylvania's Juniata River
Frequently Asked Questions
Got questions? I've got answers. Here are the most common questions I receive about guided fishing trips.
Not at all! I guide anglers of all skill levels, from complete beginners to experienced fishermen. I'll tailor the instruction and pace to match your experience. If you've never held a fishing rod, that's perfectly fine—I'll teach you everything you need to know.
No. I provide all fishing rods, reels, tackle, and bait. You don't need to bring anything fishing-related unless you prefer to use your own equipment. All you need to bring is yourself, appropriate clothing, and personal items like sunscreen.
Safety is my top priority. If I determine that weather or water conditions are unsafe, I'll contact you to reschedule or cancel. In weather-related cancellations, you'll receive a full refund or the option to reschedule at no charge. Light rain doesn't stop us—some of the best fishing happens in overcast or drizzly conditions!
Absolutely! I love guiding families and introducing kids to fishing. My Family Fishing Adventures are specifically designed to be kid-friendly, focusing on action-oriented species to keep children engaged. I'm patient, safety-focused, and experienced with young anglers. Kids as young as 5 or 6 can participate.
While I can't guarantee you'll catch fish (fishing is called fishing, not catching!), I will work hard to put you on fish and maximize your chances of success. I know these waters intimately and will use that knowledge to give you the best possible experience. Even on slower fishing days, you'll learn valuable skills and enjoy time on beautiful Pennsylvania waters.
Pennsylvania fishing licenses are required for most anglers. In many cases, I can provide the necessary licensing as part of your trip. I'll discuss this with you when you book. If you already have a PA fishing license, feel free to bring it.
Dress in comfortable outdoor clothing appropriate for the weather. Layers are always a good idea. Closed-toe shoes with good traction are required (no flip-flops or sandals). A hat and polarized sunglasses are highly recommended. Check out our "What to Bring" page for a complete packing list.
I practice catch-and-release fishing for most species to help preserve these fisheries for future generations. However, if you'd like to keep fish within legal limits and seasons, we can discuss that when you book. I'll help you understand regulations and best practices for ethical fishing.
Most trips accommodate 1-2 anglers comfortably. Family trips can accommodate up to 3-4 people, including children. For larger groups, please contact me to discuss options. The number of anglers affects the type of experience, boat capacity, and attention each person receives.
Spring (April-May) and fall (September-October) offer some of the best fishing, but every season has its advantages. Summer provides consistent action, especially for bass. I fish year-round, with limited winter availability. Each season targets different species and uses different techniques.
I recommend booking at least 2-4 weeks in advance, especially during peak seasons (spring and fall). However, I sometimes have last-minute availability, so don't hesitate to reach out even if your trip is coming up soon. Weekend dates fill up quickly.
We can always adjust the trip to ensure everyone is comfortable. If someone isn't feeling well, we can head to shore, take a break, or end early if needed. Your comfort and safety are more important than fishing. Let me know if anyone in your group is prone to motion sickness, and we can plan accordingly.
I provide complimentary bottled water and light snacks. For full-day trips, you should bring your own lunch and additional snacks. There are no restaurants on the water, so pack what you'll need for the day. A small cooler is fine to bring along.
Absolutely! I encourage you to bring a camera or smartphone to capture memories. I'm happy to take photos of you with your catches. Just make sure your device is protected from water. I also offer an optional photography package for professional trip photos.
Cancellations made more than 7 days in advance receive a full refund. Cancellations within 7 days of the trip are non-refundable, though I will work with you to reschedule when possible. Life happens—just communicate with me as early as you can.
I want fishing to be accessible to everyone. Please contact me to discuss your specific needs, and I will do my best to accommodate you. Some locations are more accessible than others, and I can recommend the best options based on your situation.
